How to Improve Your Game's Graphics and/or Performance Via the Nvidia Control Panel

Ever wondered how you can further ramp up your game's graphics outside the in-game options menu? Or despaired about how you can ever get a stable enough framerate that won't burn your eyes?

Here's a video on how to go about doing either of the above:

Here's the file the video refers to (right-click and open in new tab to enlarge):

(Limited) Freeware Turns ANY Headphones into 7.1 Surround Sound Systems

I haven't posted here in quite a while but I'm pretty active on my YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook accounts. Anyway, I've recently uploaded a video about Razer's amazing limited freeware offer: the Razer Surround.

This cool downloadable emulator transforms ordinary headphones and earphones into veritable, compact 7.1 surround home theater systems. It's very easy to use, requiring only that you register for a Razer Synapse account, which is not unlike Valve's Steam and EA's Origin content delivery platforms.

You can download Razer Surround for free until December 31, 2013. After that, the freeware offer ends and you've to pay $19.99. (Razer is currently giving this away with a donation option that users can opt in; proceeds will go to Child's Play Charity.) Downloading and installing the thing binds it to your Razer Synapse account, very much like Steam and Origin games; you won't have to shell out cash when 2014 arrives.

Here's the video:

Where to download, how to install, and how to calibrate--everything is covered in the video.

Freeware Foray: Cry of Fear

Horror games for the PC are a dime a dozen. However, horror games that are free AND have garnered awards AND a large following are hard to come by. Enter Cry of Fear, a freeware survival horror Half-Life (ONE) mod that has now been converted into a standalone free-to-play PC first-person shooter.

This is very exciting news for me as free game downloads have always been a passion. To discover that a game I initially couldn't play (given that I've never bought the very first Half-Life) has now been released as a standalone is news indeed.

You might wonder what the fuss is all about with this free to play offering. Well:

That got your attention.

I've been immensely entertained by this survival horror romp---and also immensely frustrated by its bugs. Currently, the game intermittently crashes every 20 minutes or so and this sorry state has proven to be a major pain to my progress. I'll post a review soon as I'm done with this game.

My Let's Play Transcendence v1.1 Series (Freeware Space Trading Exploration Combat PC Game)

[Update 3 (March 5, 2013): Added "The Story so Far" Part 12 description]
[Update 2 (February 27, 2013): Added "The Story so Far" Part 11 description]
[Update 1 (February 26, 2013): Added "The Story so Far" Part 9 and Part 10 descriptions]

If you haven't been taking a peek at my YouTube channel (click HERE or see the link at the upper right part of this site), you've clearly missed my "Let's Play Transcendence v1.1" series.

What I've written on the videos' description boxes:

Transcendence is a 2.5D free to play sci-fi PC space trading game that runs along the lines of the Space Rogue, Elite, Eve Online, and the X (Beyond the Frontier, Terran Conflict, etc) series. Though weighing in at only a tiny 17MB, the game provides surprising deep gameplay for its size, letting players have free reign on what they want to do---play as a simple drifter running supplies among the many space stations; as a guardian of the myriad galactic enclaves; and even as a bounty hunter hunting down space outlaws.

Join me as I embark on my journey to the Galactic Core. I need all my luck as there are many threats the vastness of space harbors, chief among them a low YouTube viewer count.
 Here's a sample video:

Impending Release: IMBACORE's Let's Play Transcendence

Just a heads-up but I'm now currently editing the first part of my "Let's Play Transcendence 1.1." I've long since want to play this game but now that its creator has released version 1.1, now is the perfect time do a Let's Play for this freeware full version PC space game.

The game is a sandbox-type video game where you can do anything that you please, trade goods, escort lumbering capital ships, and/or hunt down rogue spacecraft. It weighs in at 17 megabytes but for a 2d game, it's a looker.

Image taken from the official Transcendence site

Once I upload the YouTube video the segments will appear on the IMBACORE YouTube channel.

Steam Games Updates (Patches): How to Enable Auto Updating

So someone asked me how to enable auto updating for his Steam games. This guide is for him. This guide also covers how to force your Steam client to automatically begin scanning for Steam games updates.

By the way: RIP THQ and Vigil Games. You guys will be missed. Here's hoping we'll see a Darksiders 3. A world without that franchise is no place for a horse.
